'Lanterns' is one of the projects by DC studios that have been in the works since James Gunn's takeover, a live action TV show part of their exclusive deal with HBO, set to stream early 2026 on Max streaming service.
And today, finally, after the first announcement of the casting, Max just shared a first look at our Hal Jordan and John Stewart, portrayed by Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre respectively.
Although there's nothing too striking in the pic like a first look at the Green Lanterns suits, it's normal that they're keeping the best for last, when release time is close enough and they have to bring out the big guns for promotion.
Filmin has been going on since January, and Chris Mundy is serving as showrunner and was the head writer for the pilot, although there's a lot of talented writers working on 'Lanterns', and everything we know so far about plot details is that Hal Jordan and John Stewart are working on getting to the bottom of a mystery on earth, while Stewart is just learning how to be a part of the Green Lantern Corps.
Some of the other members of the cast we know of are Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald who is playing a Sheriff that our heroes have to work with, and Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, a rogue ex-lantern that the comic lovers will immediately recognize.
According to DC Studios, the intention is that the show, that will consist of 8 episodes, starts streaming close to the same time 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow' will be releasing on theaters (June 26, 2026), meaning we'll have the show on Max in the first half of the year and the first trailers will start showing up by the end of 2025.
