'Materialists': What we know about A24's next love triangle

After conquering hearts worlwide with her directorial debut 'Past Lives', Celine Song is back with 'Materialists', a romantic comedy starring Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal.

Yesterday A24 announced the release date for the United States to be this June 13, 2025 with a poster that showcases some of the opulence in New York City's high class that the films wants to show.

There's nothing confirmed yet, but considering the cast led by such recognized faces in the blockbuster world, A24 might be betting big on this one and doing wide release of the United States while Sony Pictures is taking care of the international release.

Last year romance proved to be very reliable when it comes to income, and with something more light hearted and digestible from Celine Song, who already showed us how amazingly she can construct complex humane characters.

Plot details about 'Materialists'

Formerly 'The Materialists', but later renamed to a more simple alternative, follows the life of Lucy (Johnson), a matchmaker for New York City's elite with a reputation as high as her prices, that despite being so good at her job can't seem to make the perfect match for herself, torn between her problematic ex and a seemingly perfect new prospect.

Evans and Pascal roles are unknown yet, we don't know who is playing who in Lucy's life, but we have seen a lot of leaks from the filming set where Evans always looks as fancy and charming as possible.

It's a shocker than after such a highly regarded and heartbreaking drama like 'Past Lives' with a lot of implications about immigrant families and cultural differences, director Celine Song is immediately moving towards the comedic route.

The cast also includes Zoe Winters ('Succession'), problematic influencer Dasha Nekrasova ('Succession', 'The Beast'), Marin Ireland ('The Irishman') and Louisa Jacobson ('The Gilded Age') Meryl Streep's youngest daugther.

Knowing A24 methods, we will be getting a full trailer by next month, and let's hope the movie can live to the expectations, and become the studio's next big success, and maybe even rom-com of the year.
