The first feature film by musical artist and producer turned filmmaker Flying Lotus, 'Ash', is currently in theaters starring Mexican actress Eiza Gonzalez ('I Care A Lot') and Aaron Paul ('Breaking Bad') in an original sci-fi horror by Jonni Remmler, who is behind the screenplay.
Accompanying Gonzalez and Paul, we have Iko Uwais ('Expend4bles'), Beulah Koale ('Hawaii Five-0'), Kate Elliott ('The Cult') and Flying Lotus himself as Riya's (Gonzalez) crew mates, the ones she finds dead after waking up not remembering anything, from her name, where she is, or what she was doing in that spaceship full of bloodied dead bodies. Shortly after waking up, tormented by bloody flashbacks or whatever went on that ship, Brion (Paul) comes knocking claiming he's theres to rescue her, and that they know each other, but Riya is not sure he can trust him.
Altough the concept is fairly generic and definitely done before, Flying Lotus artistic vision and trippy aesthetics are there to make up for everything the screenplay might be lacking, since 'Ash's aesthetics are a big part of everything.
Gruesome, gory and unsettling are some of the words out there by reviewers for this movie, currently holding a 76% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, with people widely praising the two lead performances in this new horror.
If you're looking for a fun watch for the weekend and you're a fan of sci-fi, make sure to check this out and form your own opinion, of course.
