Benito Skinner debut series as a writer and main actor 'Overcompensating' has been in the works since late 2022 for Amazon MGM as the main producer and distributor, with Jonah Hill (for Strong Baby Productions) and A24 financing the comedy series as well.
And now, after a little over 2 years, the series is finally hitting Prime Video streaming service this May 15, starring Benito Skinner ('Queer As Folk'), Adam DiMarco ('The White Lotus'), TV writer and producer Wally Baram who is making her acting debut, Rish Shah ('Do Revenge') and Mary Beth Barone ('Black Mirror') as our main cast, with a lot of other up and coming actors and comedians that will have background roles in the 8 episode comedy, with even a special guest appearance from Charli XCX starring as herself.
We don't know who is behind directing the show yet, but we do know that Skinner had some help in the writing room by Scott King, Mitra Jouhari and Jordan Mendoza, when finishing up this "coming of age" comedy following a High School Football player that has been pretending to be straight to keep his parents and everyone around happy, as he comes into college and realizes the world is so much more.
Now he has to decide if he wants to live his truth and tell his girlfriend Carmen (Baram) the truth before someone else does, or keep pretending he doesn't want Miles (Shah).
Benny has been relevant online for his comedy skits and his imperssonations, so it's only a couple of months before we find out on May 15, 2025, if that comedy talent translates as well into a scripted show.
