Filmmaker and producer Romell Foster-Owens is finally making her sophomore film 'Love Bait', after 34 years of her directorial debut 'The Three Muscatels', this time a multicultural romantic comedy with leads Lynn Chen ('Grey's Anatomy') and the debut of comedian Dwayne Perkins for Margin Films.
Despite directing only one movie back in 1991, Foster-Owens has been producing film and TV through all these years, and according to Variety, she felt the need to make 'Love Bait' due to the recent raise of racism and the efforts of the current administration of erasing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, that's why she's making a feel good movie, a romantic comedy, focusing on ethnic characters and how their cultural backgrounds shape them.
The film will folow a career-driven Asian American woman (Chen) and her fake boyfriend (Perkins), who she is paying to act as the worst boyfriend possible in front of her traditional parents in order to convince them than the man she truly loves, and her actual partner, is the best option. Unfortunately for her, this boyfriend for pay will creep into her heart slowly, making it difficult for her when it comes time to choose between him and her actual boyfriend.
There are no details about who will be playing the role of the other boyfriend, but we do now that Vivica A. Fox will be starring as Perkins' mother, besides executive producing the film as well. There are no distributing deals yet, but we might be hearing about a theatrical release for this by the end of this year.
