After working on the animated critical darling 'Anomalisa' with Charlie Kaufman, Duke Johnson is back with 'The Actor', his first live action film, and debut as a solo director, with a script co-written with Stephen Cooney.
The film, produced by Innerlight Films and distributed by Neon, is based on 'Memory', the novel by acclaimed author Donald E. Westlake, following an actor, Paul Cole (André Holland) as he tries to get his life and his memories back after taking a beating in a place he doesn't know.
Early production started back in 2021, and after four years the result is finally coming to limited theaters this March 14th.
Neon shared the first trailer for the film today, were we can get a taste of all the drama and the mystery we're going to get into, as well as a first look to the ensemble cast in this visually astounding epic story, including Gemma Chan, May Calamawy, Toby Jones, Tanya Reynolds and many other actors bringing this dream-like mystery to life.
Charlie Kaufman is also an executive producer for the film, meaning he is not letting Johnson along in this journey through his first live action movie, since most of Duke Johnson works and credits have been in the animation department.
'Anomalisa' was an Oscar nominee as well as a strong contender through all the awards season, so let's see if 'The Actor' can live up to the expectations and deliver something hard to forget.
