With other worldly aesthetics, colorful landscapes and amazing music comes 'O'Dessa', an original musical by Geremy Jasper produced by Searchlight Pictures. The movie is going to screen for the first time on March 8th at SXSW 2025, before streaming on Hulu on March 13th.
The movie, starring up and comer Sadie Sink as O'Dessa, promises a wild ride into an unknown world full of vibrant colors, sin, corruption and cruelty, with an evil entity overseeing everything that our hero must defeat. With Kelvin Harrison Jr. playing our protagonist's true love, and Regina Hall with Murray Bartlett playing our antagonists, the ones trying to stop O'Dessa from finishing her journey and causing a revolution against evil forces.
It is exciting watching ambitious projects like this come to life, with bold decisions behind the aesthetics and the script, with original ideas and a whole original album of new music interpreted by the cast. Apart from that, it's never too much when it comes to uplifting stories where kindness and love beats everything else.
It's always easy to draw comparisons from fiction to reality, especially when it comes to post-apocalyptic tyrannies, the social and political commentary will always be present in this type of media, and it can always spark a change even if just in a few people.
Let's hope that the ambitious idea matches the result, and we end up with an unforgettable musical for the history book early in the year. For now, we just have to wait one more month until March 13.
