The highly acclaimed and celebrated musical 'Kiss of the Spider Woman' is making a return this year by the hands of legendary filmmaker Bill Condon, with award winning musical movies like 'Chicago', 'Gods & Monsters' and 'Dreamgirls' under his belt, it's exciting to see what new light he's going to shine over this material.
Jennifer Lopez is in 'Kiss of the Spider Woman' both as a producer under her company Nuyorican Productions, as well as playing the iconic Spider Woman, with Tonatiuh Elizarraraz as Luis Molina, the protagonist of this emblematic story. The movie will also be the return of Diego Luna to the big screen as Valentin Arregui.
Originally a novel by Argentinian writer Manuel Puig back in 1976, both the Broadway musical adaptation and the original movie by Héctor Babenco received wide praise, winning Tonys and Oscars respectively as well as many other accolades, so the expectations for the new Bill Condon iteration, considering his amazing reputation, are very high.
The film will be opening tomorrow January 26th on the Sundance Film Festival, meaning that reviews will be dropping soon enough and luckily, if the reception is good enough the distribution can move faster, since at the momento there is not a premiere date for theaters anywhere. Let's hope it can hit general audiences on time for the next award season.
