Coming from Lionsgate and Hasbro Entertainment, a live action story based on Monopoly, the best selling board game of all time, is in development by filmmaker duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, with actress Margot Robbie as a producer.
Live actions and adaptations have been hot topic for a few years now, that is no secret, and after the overwhelming success of 'Barbie' back in 2023, the holders of the most famous intellectual properties have been looking for a team that can make a successful movie out of them.
We have heard news about both Hasbro and Mattel are both working on new films, but now Hasbro Entertainment finally settles a deal for a 'Monopoly' movie, and although we are not sure who is going to be directing yet, Daley and Goldstein working on the screenplay is great news if you're familiar with the great comedies they have been making together.
Their more recent title 'Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves' was lauded by audiences as a great adaptation of the famous game, being a total success with over $200 million in the worlwide box office, with other great titles like 'Game Night' and 'Horrible Bosses', movies that are not only successful on the box office but actually funny and fresh movies.
Alongside Hasbro Entertainment, Margot Robbie will be overseeing the production for LuckyChap Entertainment, who are producing the film as well, and if we're lucky enough casting for this will start sometime in the second half of 2025. In the meantime, Goldstein and Daley have a movie soon to release for Apple TV+, starring Ryan Reynolds, called 'Mayday' that should be streaming later this year on the streaming service.
