The newest show by 'Gilmore Girls' and 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' creators: 'Étoile' is now available on Prime Video, a new dramedy series following two competing ballet companies and their desperate attempts to recover after covid.
With Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, both responsible for two very successful and lauded award winning comedy series like 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' and 'Gilmore Girls' are coming back with this drama starring Luke Kirby ('The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel') as Jack, the head of the Metropolitan Ballet Theater in New York City and Charlotte Gainsbourg ('The Phoenician Scheme') as Geneviève, the head of Le Ballet National in Paris.
With both companies struggling to pull dancers or even people to their functions, Geneviève comes up with the desperate idea of interchanging their top dancers between companies and make a lot of noise around it in an attempt to grab people's attention, with the biggest setback being that she needs Jack to say yes, her ex lover, to a program funded by a billionaire man he despises.
The series is very soap opera with the protrayals and the situations, but nonetheless a very effective dramedy full of talent, with other actors like Tony Award winner David Alvarez ('West Side Story'), Lou de Laage ('The Mad Women's Ball'), Gideon Glick ('Maestro') and Simon Callow ('No Man's Land').
The first season, consisting of eight episodes of around 1 hour each, is currently certified fresh and holding a 83% of positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Make sure to check it out if it's a good time what you're looking for.
